We have seen thousands of clients over the years on our weight loss hypnotherapy programme and the overwhelming fact is that for virtually every client this is not their first attempt at losing weight. Most clients will report having tried a myriad of diets, all of which, according to the clients, have failed. Or have they?
Do diets fail?
Most clients report in general losing weight but then they gain it all back, and more. So with regards to losing weight in the main, they don’t fail at all. What is also clear is that clients that use diets that promote fast weight loss, seem to put the weight back on quicker. Which may explain the myth that is perpetuated, even by the NHS, is that fast weight loss leads to fast regain of weight and greater increase in weight gain, over and above what was lost.
According to recent research in the New England Journal of Medicine, the idea that you should lose weight slowly is simply not backed by clinical research.
The report called ‘Myths, Presumptions, and Facts about Obesity’ states “Myth number 3: Large, rapid weight loss is associated with poorer long-term weight loss outcomes, as compared with slow, gradual weight loss.
Within weight loss trials, more rapid and greater initial weight loss has been associated with lower body weight at the end of long term follow-up. A meta-analysis of randomized, controlled trials that compared rapid weight loss (achieved with very low energy diets) with slower weight loss (achieved with low energy diets, i.e, 800 to 1200 kcal per day) at the end of short term follow-up (
So if the speed of weight loss does not make any difference, why do people think it does?
The answer may lie in a simple psychological factor that is not addressed by the vast majority of diet regimes.
How is weight loss hypnotherapy the missing ingredient of dieting?
For any weight loss to be maintained there has to be a change to lifestyle, which means one simple thing. To create lifestyle changes there needs to be behavioural change. For most people on a diet this behavioural change does not happen. In the normal way of yo-yo dieting, people are not on a diet long enough to establish and create long lasting habitual behaviour. The minute they lose motivation in a particular diet they revert back to old behaviours. The cycle of failure starts again with the next fad diet that comes around the corner.
Why weight loss hypnotherapy is effective
Weight loss hypnotherapy works alongside any diet as it works by creating fast behavioural change. When you change your viewpoint towards food and the types of food, and the amount that you want changes, so does your waistline, and not just in the short-term. Clients often ask ‘Does hypnotherapy work?‘. Because weight loss hypnotherapy concentrates on the behavioural change aspects, it not only works but it achieves what virtually no other weight loss regime can, behavioural change in a short period of time.
So if you are looking for a long-term weight loss, outcome free of the diets and low-fat, low taste food, hypnotherapy can help you achieve it.
